City Council Approves Three Destination Geneva Grants for Music, Arts Workshop, and Shakespeare in the Park
The City Council considered three resolutions authorizing Destination Geneva grants. Resolution 2026-71 approved $4,500 for Preservation and Atlas Chicken Geneva for a Sunday sidewalk music program from July to September, aiming to encourage visitors to explore downtown. Resolution 2026-72 approved $1,300 for the Geneva Foundation for the Arts for a silk screening workshop at the Geneva Arts Fair in July. Resolution 2026-73 approved $1,500 for the Geneva Foundation for the Arts for the annual Shakespeare in the Park event on August 1st, noting its cultural, social, and economic value and reach to surrounding communities. Discussions involved the grant criteria, particularly regarding overnight visitors and program management fees, and the integration of different application processes.
Recycling Center Project Status and New Grant Funding Report Highlighted
During the 'New Business' portion of the meeting, Alderperson Reini inquired about the status of improvements to the King County Recycling Center, noting no recent updates. Director Degrroot stated that the project is still planned but not currently in the budget. City Manager Voit highlighted a new addition to the February 2026 financial report: the Grant and External Funding Portfolio, which provides updates on grants obtained, closed out, and managed by the city.
Easement Accepted for Fabian Boulevard Bike Path Project
The City Council approved Resolution 2026-75, authorizing the city to accept an easement along the north edge of Fabian Boulevard west of Couts Road. This easement is related to the Myth Industrial Park project, which includes the installation of a bike path that coincides with planned bike path improvements by King County and the City of Geneva. The bike path will run approximately 1100 feet, intersecting with a King County ridgeway and a driveway approach within the county right-of-way, terminating near 1891 B Fabian Boulevard.
Samantha J. Pring Promoted to Fire Lieutenant
Samantha J. Pring was promoted to the rank of Fire Lieutenant in the city of Geneva. Campbell Courtyard PUD Amended to Allow Property Subdivision
The City Council considered ordinance number 2026-12, which amends the Campbell Courtyard planned unit development (PUD). The amendment allows for the subdivision of the property into two separate zoning lots. This request was reviewed and supported by both the Historic Preservation Commission and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
