Residents Urge Stricter Tree Preservation Ordinance Amid Concerns Over Tree Removal
During the public comment section, residents David Guzik and Griffin Hammond raised concerns about the city's tree preservation ordinances and the recent removal of 52 trees, including mature oaks, on private property near Potawatomi Park. They urged the city council to enact a stronger ordinance with 'teeth' to protect trees, citing examples from other municipalities like Streamwood, Wheaton, Glenview, Lake Forest, Highland Park, Oak Park, and Geneva, which have more robust tree protection measures. Steve Leler also spoke, explaining the ecological importance and long life cycle of burr oaks, emphasizing the community's role as stewards of these natural resources.

The Mayor also acknowledged the presence of other members of the Police and Fire departments.
