Additionally, the girls' soccer team from West Chicago Community High School was honored for winning their conference, marking the first time a female athletic team from the city achieved this distinction.
City Council Approves Meeting Minutes, Financial Report, Consent Agenda Items, and Festival Permits
The City Council approved the minutes from the June 1st, 2026 meeting and the corporate dispersement report for June 15, 2026, totaling $641,993.71. The council also approved a consent agenda including special event permits for the World Cup Festival and the West Chicago High School Homecoming Parade, resolutions for appointing an authorized agent to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund and authorizing signers for city accounts, and a funding agreement with Desperatar Latino for the Mexican Independence Day event. Items pulled for separate consideration, the Mexican Independence Day Festival Special Event Permit and the funding agreement with Desperatar Latino, were both approved.
New Director of Community Development Appointed; Upcoming Community Events Announced
The City Council announced that John Starret has accepted the position of Director of Community Development, moving from his interim role. Additionally, updates were provided on upcoming community events, including the Mosaic Market's Hawaiian night on June 18th, where updated modified plans for a community project will be presented. Railroad Days, organized by the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce, will take place from June 18th to 21st at Pioneer Park, featuring a carnival, entertainment, and family activities, culminating in an America 250 fireworks celebration on Saturday.
