Fair Hope Council Reviews Water Connection Fee Increases
The city council considered an ordinance to amend water connection fees and expenses, updating Ordinance numbers 953 and 1658, and repealing and replacing Ordinance number 1745. The amendment to Chapter 21, Article 3 of the Fair Hope Code of Ordinances aims to adjust impact fees based on a study by Jackson Thornton regarding capital investments required for water and sewer systems. The new fees are set to take effect on August 1st for all new or unpaid applications. This ordinance aims to ensure the city can afford to upgrade its systems and provide reliable water services.
Councilman Conjurs Appointed to Energy Southeast Election Committee
The city council appointed Councilman Jimmy Conjurs to serve as the city's representative on the Energy Southeast election committee. This committee member will attend Energy Southeast meetings and convey the city's recommendations for committee selections. Councilman Conjurs was recommended by the mayor and will replace Councilman Boone, who served in this role for nine years. The appointment involves a trip to Montgomery.
City Procures New Sanitation Truck to Replace Accident-Damaged Vehicle
The city council approved the procurement of a new sanitation truck from Sansom Equipment Company through the Sourcewell contract, avoiding a separate bidding process. The total cost is not to exceed $221,950. This new truck will replace a vehicle that was totaled in an accident, with insurance providing approximately $192,000 towards the purchase. The totaled vehicle was three years old.
City Approves Funding for Water Tower Site Property Transfer Costs
The city council approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Sherry Sullivan to execute a contract for professional services for closing costs and title insurance related to the water tower site property and a 30-foot access and utility easement from Daniel Realy Company LLC. The contract, with Capesky and Brit LLC, has a not-to-exceed cost of $5,000, covering title and closing expenses for the land transfer.
City Seeks $30,000 in Grants for Anniversary Events and Entrepreneurial Center
The city council authorized the mayor to submit a letter to Energy Southeast requesting a total of $30,000 through community development grants. Of this amount, $3,000 is designated for the America's 250th anniversary fireworks finale, $20,000 for operating the entrepreneurial development center (i.e., Hatch), and the remaining $7,000 is to be determined, potentially for more anniversary decorations. The city has utilized this grant for Hatch for years.
