June Sales Tax Collections Show Slight Decrease Year-Over-Year

Kimberly Hoover, Finance Director, presented the monthly sales tax report. For June, total sales tax collected was $2,613,466.52, which is a 4.9% decrease compared to June of the previous year. Use tax for June totaled $413,390, a 7.85% decrease. Despite these decreases, the general fund is currently $110,938 above budget projections when combining use tax and general fund sales tax. Comparisons with other cities show similar decreases in sales tax collections for June 2025 compared to June 2024. The report also noted an upward trend in year-over-year tax growth over the last four of the past five months.

City Discusses Proposed Ordinance on Public Conduct, Camping, and Vehicle Occupancy

The Commission discussed a proposed amendment to Article 6 of Chapter 20 of the City Code, concerning prohibitions against certain public conduct contrary to public health and safety. This ordinance addresses camping, personal property items, and sleeping in vehicles, and is an update for clarification following a US Supreme Court ruling. The ordinance is intended to provide clarification and consequences for certain circumstances. This was a discussion item only, with a vote scheduled for the following month.
