City Approves Sidewalk Expansion Project in Old Town Neighborhood with ODOT Grant
The council approved a grant project with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) for the construction of sidewalks in the Old Town neighborhood, specifically along Sunny Lane Road (between SE 15th and SE 29th Streets) and Vicki Street (between 15th Street and Sunny Lane). The project, which faced cost increases post-COVID, will now connect existing sidewalk gaps and create new connections, including a route between Dell City Elementary and Dell City Middle School, prioritizing student safety. The project is an 80-20 match, with ODOT covering the majority of the cost. Discussions included the potential for wider sidewalks and ADA compliance.
Dell City Overhauls Housing Inspection Program and Terminates Moratorium
The council approved Ordinance Number 1457, which repeals and replaces Section 5-130 (Housing Inspection Program) and Section 5-133 (Initiation or Continuation of Utility Services). This ordinance addresses lawful residential occupancy and safety compliance, as well as utility service requirements. Following this approval, Resolution Number 06-15-22026 was also approved, terminating the moratorium on the enforcement of the housing inspection program. The resolution states that the moratorium is no longer necessary following the repeal and replacement of Section 5-130.

The DCEDA also noted a successful nonprofit event and discussed upcoming legislative session updates. Additionally, a block party hosted by Dell City Church of Nazarene was announced.
MSA Addresses Bulk Trash Confusion, Approves Water Plant Upgrades, and CNG Truck Acquisition
During the Municipal Services Authority (MSA) meeting, discussions covered various utility-related topics. Residents expressed confusion regarding the bulk trash pickup schedule, with clarification provided that pickup occurs during the first full week of the month, not necessarily the first calendar day. The importance of residents placing trash carts correctly and the availability of additional carts for a nominal fee ($3/month) were emphasized to manage waste and protect city workers. Additionally, plans for replacing water treatment plant filters (Filter #4, then #1 and #3) were discussed, with RFPs to be released soon to ensure timely replacement and contractual adherence. A new CNG-powered dump truck, funded by a DEQ grant, is expected within 4-6 weeks to improve air quality.
Dell City Council Reaffirms Support for Public Servants Amidst Safety and Service Discussions
During the council meeting, various aspects of public safety and city services were discussed and affirmed. Council members expressed strong support for police officers, firefighters, and public works employees, emphasizing their dedication and the risks they take. Concerns about abusive language towards city staff were addressed, with a call for respect and constructive criticism. Specific mentions included police responding to alarms, code enforcement actions, and the daily services provided by sanitation and public works departments. The Mayor highlighted the city's efforts to address issues promptly and assured staff of the council's support. The renewal of the Axon contract for body cameras and tasers was also mentioned, with plans for one-on-one meetings to review details.
