Zoning Board Continues Hearing on Data Center Overlay Amidst Expert Testimony and Environmental Concerns

The Zoning Hearing Board continued its hearing on Ordinance 580, which would create a data center overlay district on three parcels owned by Pennsylvania Glacial Till LLC. The hearing focused on cross-examination of the challengers' expert witness, Jeffrey Grace, and testimony from township staff and conservation organizations. Grace testified that Ordinance 580 constituted spot zoning. The Nature Conservancy and Wildlands Conservancy expressed concerns about the potential environmental impacts of industrial development in the area, citing the presence of exceptional value streams, wetlands, and at-risk species. Township staff, represented by Crystal Butler, detailed the lengthy process of evaluating data center uses and drafting Ordinance 580, emphasizing the inclusion of numerous studies and safeguards. The board ultimately voted to continue the hearing to a later date.
