Village Board Approves Revised Plans for 93rd Street Reconstruction Project
The Village Board approved Resolution 26-23, which concerns the revised relocation order and right-of-way plat for the reconstruction of 93rd Street from 63rd Avenue to Cooper Road. The project aims to enhance pavement longevity, function, and roadway safety. Improvements include a paved shoulder, curb and gutter, storm sewer and management facilities, sidewalk on the north side, road base and pavement reconstruction, a roundabout at Cooper Road, street lights, and extensions of sanitary sewer and water main. The revised plans shorten the sidewalk on Parcel One (outlaw 1 of Creekside Crossing subdivision) to eliminate the need for property acquisition from that parcel due to an ownership issue with a defunct entity (Regency Hills). The board previously approved related work under resolutions 2522, 2602, and 2613. The acquisition costs are budgeted, and construction is anticipated in 2027. The project is partially funded by an SDPU grant from the state. The motion to approve was by Mike Polakoff and seconded by Jim Kedrow.
Village Board Praises First Responders for Professionalism and Dedication
Village Board members expressed gratitude and commendation for the village's first responders, including police and fire medics. Trustee Matt Henby shared observations from spending time with these departments, highlighting their expertise, professionalism, and the effective use of technology and equipment in responding to incidents. Specific examples included tracking a suspect using technology for efficient staff deployment and the seamless operation of fire medics in critical situations. The board acknowledged the difficult and often stressful nature of first responders' work, emphasizing their compassion and care, especially when dealing with residents on their 'worst days'.
Village Board Approves Rezoning for Johnson Bank Property at 7500 Green Bay Road
The Village Board considered and approved Ordinance 26-36 and Ordinance 26-37, which rezone the property at 7500 Green Bay Road from its current designation to the B2 PUD district, Community Business District, with a Planned Unit Development overlay. This rezoning allows for the creation of a specific PUD zoning ordinance for the property, enabling Johnson Bank to make necessary signage improvements and to bring their site into conformity with current village codes after right-of-way acquisitions due to Highway 50 construction. The PUD text amendment includes minor dimensional standards, setback requirements, and sign requirements. The board approved the ordinances with a motion by Mike Polakoff and a second by Matt Henby.
Village Board Conditionally Accepts Phase One Public Improvements for Prairie Springs Apartments
The Village Board considered and approved the conditional acceptance of public improvements associated with Phase One of the Prairie Springs apartment complex development. This approval transfers ownership and maintenance responsibilities for the public infrastructure, including sewer and water mains, to the Village. A one-year warranty correction period will commence upon approval. Final acceptance is contingent upon receiving all lien waivers, completing manhole vacuum testing, and the conclusion of the warranty period. The improvements were completed in accordance with approved plans and specifications and inspected by R A Smith. The motion to approve was by Mike Polakoff and seconded by Jim Kedrow.
Village Board Initiates Discontinuance of 56th Avenue Right-of-Way Segment
The Village Board considered and approved Resolution 26-24, initiating the process to discontinue a portion of the 56th Avenue right-of-way north of 98th Street. This platted but unconstructed right-of-way is within the Will Char subdivision. A homeowner requires the discontinuance to allow for an addition to their home, as the current lot line and setbacks prevent the expansion. The right-of-way is unlikely to be constructed due to an ATC line and easement. The portion south of 89th Street will remain for potential connections. The motion to approve was made by Jim Kedro and seconded by Jim Kramer.
