Easy Fiber Addresses Service Outages and Outlines Reliability Improvements to Novi Council

Easy Fiber presented an update to the Novi City Council regarding service issues experienced in the greater Detroit area. Garner Duncan, SVP of Easy Fiber, addressed concerns about recent outages, attributing them to a series of unforeseen events including fiber cuts by construction and a gopher strike. He explained the company's deployment strategy, including their current backbone provider (123Net), and the steps being taken to improve reliability, such as contracting with a second provider (Crown Castle) for a diverse redundant connection. Easy Fiber also discussed their commitment to community engagement and their plan to open a regional office in Troy. Council members raised concerns about installation timelines, service reliability, and equipment performance, and asked about future plans for local presence and communication protocols. Easy Fiber committed to providing better communication and improving service.

Novi Approves DTE Agreement for Underground Utility Relocation

The city council approved an agreement with DTE for the relocation of underground facilities along Lebegol Drive and 11 Mile Road. The project, estimated at $2,315,813, is part of the public safety headquarters infrastructure. This cost is under budget compared to the initial utility budget allocation. The agreement covers the relocation of DTE's underground facilities, and associated costs for moving other utilities sharing DTE poles are included within the timeline and budget. Relocating overhead facilities south of 11 Mile Road was deemed cost-prohibitive and will not be pursued, with funds redirected towards the main campus area.
