State Senator Discusses Data Center Impacts and Regulations
State Senator Rosemary Bayer provided an informational overview regarding the increasing prevalence and potential impacts of hyperscale data centers. She discussed concerns about their significant energy and water consumption, large geographic footprint, and potential for noise pollution. Bayer highlighted that while data centers can be profitable for communities, careful planning, effective zoning ordinances, and state-level regulations are crucial to mitigate negative impacts. She mentioned recent legislative efforts to regulate water and energy use and to prevent the costs of infrastructure build-out from being passed to consumers. The township has a moratorium in place to study these issues and revise ordinances.
Friendship Station Senior Center Parking Lot and Storm Improvements Approved
The Board of Trustees approved the award of the Friendship Station Storm and Parking Lot Improvements Project to Best Asphalt Inc. The project will address long-standing issues with the parking lot and drainage at the senior center. Funds for the project are provided by the Wayne County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Improvements include pavement, drainage, and a new dumpster enclosure. The project is necessary to resolve ongoing flooding issues that required frequent intervention from the Department of Public Works.
Plymouth Farms Residential Development Receives Final Approval
The Board of Trustees granted final approval for the Plymouth Farms residential cluster housing development. This development will consist of 19 detached single-family homes on 6.3 acres, featuring a mix of ranch and colonial-style homes with various elevation and masonry options. The project, located south of the Margate subdivision, previously received cluster housing option approval and site plan approval from the planning commission. The development includes a pocket park and interconnectivity with the adjacent Margate subdivision. The developer, KDM Management Holdings, represented by Leo Gonzalez, and builder Pulte, addressed concerns about maintenance of common areas, home styles, pricing, and road extensions. The township attorney has reviewed the legal documents.
Police Department Secures One-Year Maintenance Agreement for 911 Consoles
The Board of Trustees authorized the Plymouth Township Police Department to enter into a one-year maintenance agreement with Intrado for their 911 call-taking consoles. The agreement covers software licenses, 24/7 technical assistance, and hardware repairs for the three consoles located in the dispatch center. The purchase was a budgeted item and came in slightly under budget. Concerns were raised about the cost and the lack of multi-year contract discounts, with the board noting they would explore alternatives for the following year.
