City Hall Air Conditioning Unit Replacement Approved for $25,760
The City Council approved the purchase and installation of a new 10-ton air conditioning unit for City Hall from Quality Air Systems for $25,760. The existing unit, which serviced approximately 25% of City Hall including the administration department, failed. The system is described as dated, and the failure of the main unit led to reliance on smaller, now also failing, units. The replacement unit is intended to restore full functionality to City Hall and alleviate strain on the remaining smaller units. This purchase was treated as an emergency and sole-source purchase due to the limited availability of the specific unit within the required timeframe.
Garden City Honors Conference Champion High School Sports Teams and Top Baseball Player
The city council recognized several high school sports teams for winning conference championships. The girls' softball team finished with a 16-0 conference record for the second consecutive year. The boys' golf team won their conference. The girls' soccer team won their WWAC championship with an 8-0-2 record. The boys' baseball team finished their conference at 15-0 with an overall record of 31-6-1 and was a runner-up in the district championship after a hard-fought extra-innings game. Additionally, senior Ethan Armstrong was recognized for being named the 2025-2026 Gatorade Michigan Baseball Player of the Year and the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Mr. Baseball.
Garden City Police Department Graduates 11 Citizens from Citizens Academy
The Garden City Police Department recognized 11 citizens who completed the 2026 Citizens Academy. The program aims to build relationships and strengthen trust between the department and the community, with graduates serving as ambassadors. Participants gained insight into modern policing, including K9, traffic, judicial, and school resource officers, investigative techniques, use of force policy, defensive tactics, and firearms training. They also experienced technology tools like drones and license plate readers. The academy emphasizes understanding the responsibilities, challenges, and dedication of law enforcement officers, fostering a hometown partnership based on pride and trust.
Garden City Council Approves FY 2025-26 Budget Amendments
The City Council approved budget amendments for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The amendments include adjustments for the Downtown Development Authority (net zero impact), establishment of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program fund, and modifications to the General Fund and Capital Projects Fund. The General Fund amendments involve transfers to the Capital Projects Fund for the fire station improvement project and sidewalk improvements. A significant portion of the General Fund's use of fund balance, noted as potentially high, is to balance the amendments and not necessarily the actual amount to be transferred, due to anticipated savings elsewhere. The Capital Projects Fund amendments establish the budget for sidewalk improvements (grant-reimbursed) and fire station improvements.
City Manager Congratulates Sports Teams and Fire Captain on Achievements

The manager also acknowledged Captain Steve Ray for completing the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer program, noting the difficulty and prestige of this achievement.
