City Council Reviews Five Points Roundabout Project to Enhance Intersection Safety

The City Council discussed the proposed Five Points roundabout project, a solution to address safety concerns at the complex five-legged intersection. The project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents. Funding of $2 million has been secured from SEMCOG and MDOT, with an estimated total project cost of $3 to $3.5 million, which will also cover necessary underground utility work, including water main and sanitary sewer replacements. The project is currently slated for construction to begin in the spring of 2028, following underground utility work in the winter of 2027-2028. The design includes pedestrian-friendly islands and features, with consideration for the impact on local businesses during the phased construction process.
