Irondale Contracts Munderlin Pyrotechnics for Three Years of July 4th Fireworks

The city council approved Resolution 2026R 133, authorizing Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. or his designee to execute a three-year agreement with Munderlin Pyrotechnics LLC for annual fireworks displays around July 4th. The resolution also authorizes the associated expenditures for these displays.

Irondale Approves Training Agreement with GovWorks for Com Coach Services

The Irondale Emergency Management Communications District Board meeting approved the minutes from the April 7th, 2026 meeting and authorized the execution of an agreement with GovWorks for Com Coach training services. The agreement is for an amount not to exceed $9,950 annually. This training service will help transcribe calls for records, generate statistics for state and federal reports, assist with new hires by reducing the need for external psychological testing, and provide keyword search capabilities.

Irondale Announces Diverse Summer Events, Microtransit Launch, and Grant Funding for Gateway Project

Mayor James D. Stewart Jr. reported on several upcoming city events and initiatives. These include the 'Princes and the Frog' movie screening at Beacon Park on June 19th, a 'Pool Potte' at Ellert Park on June 20th, a small business lunch and learn at the Irondale Library on June 25th, and the 75th birthday celebration for the Irondale Library on July 1st. The city will celebrate America 250 with a 'Red, White, and Blue' festival on July 4th, featuring fireworks, bands, and food trucks. The summer movie series will conclude with 'Top Gun' on July 17th, tied into 'I Love Irondale Day' on July 18th. A new microtransit service will launch on July 1st, costing $1.50 per ride to 14 destinations, supported by a $514,000 grant from the Community Foundation for a 15-month pilot program. Additionally, the 16th Street Gateway Project received a $460,000 grant from Terry Sewell for FY27, bringing the total grant funding for two projects to approximately $1 million. K1 Speed opened on June 25th at the old Southeastern Salvage Building, with a grand opening event and a 'Mayor's Cup' race scheduled for the same day. A meeting for residents of 'The Bend' regarding construction issues is scheduled for June 23rd.

Irondale Secures Funding for Additional Senior Activity Center Bus

The city council approved the amendment of Resolution 2026R-104 through Resolution 2026 R-104-A, authorizing an agreement with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham. This also approves the expenditure of a $24,024 match, funded by the senior activity account. The funds will be used to acquire an additional ADA-accessible bus for the senior activity center, bringing the total fleet to one van and two buses.

Irondale Community Foundation Launches 'Packs the Pantry' Food Drive with Inter-District Competition

The Irondale Community Foundation announced 'Irondale Packs the Pantry,' a neighborhood food drive initiative to combat hunger in central Alabama. This program, in collaboration with the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, will involve friendly competition among city districts, with each district having a designated week to collect non-perishable food items or monetary donations. The district collecting the most donations will win a trophy and bragging rights, with the award presented at an August council meeting. Drop-off locations for non-perishable items will be City Hall and the Irondale Public Library. The foundation emphasized that every dollar donated provides four meals.
