Resident Decries Pervasive Potholes and Street Disrepair, Cites Multiple Code Violations
Ernetta Bryant raised concerns about the poor condition of streets in her area, specifically Zion City Road and Airport Road, which have numerous potholes. She noted that after complaining, the city marked the streets but did not fix the potholes. Her primary concern is her street, 17th Avenue North, which she states has only half a street existing, with a hole underneath, making it passable for only one car. She has complained about this issue for years to multiple council members. She also mentioned issues with rental properties, noise (chickens, roosters), burning trees, and unmaintained airport grass, questioning who is responsible and if fines are issued. The administration pledged to investigate the breakdown in addressing her concerns and work with relevant departments.
Resident Raises Concerns About Jail Project Bidding Transparency and Unreceived Foundation Grant
A resident, Joseph Holt, raised concerns about transparency in the bidding process for the city jail budget, noting a lack of information for contractors, particularly minority contractors, to apply for jobs. He also reported issues with the Penny Foundation, stating he was granted $2,500 in November 2024 but has not received it, and expressed difficulties in contacting the foundation's representative, Mr. Watson. The administration committed to following up with the purchasing division, finance department, and the Penny Foundation to address these concerns.
Resident Denied Consecutive Speaking Time Due to Ordinance, Disagrees with Council's Interpretation
Terry Michael was informed that she could not speak consecutively on the same topic as per city ordinance and was invited to speak again next week. She disagreed with the Council's interpretation of a previous conversation, stating it was recorded and that the ordinance allows for public speaking. The Council President reiterated that the ordinance dictates the rules for speakers.
