Council Approves Disposal of Surplus Property and Conditional Use Permit for Truck Terminal

The City Council considered approving Resolution number 1646 regarding the disposal of surplus street department property and Resolution number 1647, which adopts findings of fact and reason for approving a conditional use permit for a truck terminal in an I1 zoning district located at 1060 and 1064 Adam Street Southeast, with a recommendation from the Planning Commission. The consent agenda, including these resolutions, was approved.

River Song Music Festival Update: Preparations Underway for 2026 Event

The River Song Music Festival committee provided an update on preparations for the 2026 festival, scheduled for July 10th and 11th. Camping reservations are full, and additional overflow camping is reserved. Security arrangements are being coordinated. Festival setup will begin on Wednesday, June 8th, with full setup on Thursday and Friday, June 9th and 10th. Perimeter fencing, signage, portable restrooms, and lighting will be installed on Thursday, June 9th. Food truck vendors will arrive Friday, June 10th. The festival lineup includes several bands. Tickets are available for purchase online via the festival's website.

City Project Updates: Paving, Solar, and Fountain Repairs Underway

Mike Lamb provided an update on city projects. Edmonton Avenue is scheduled for final paving and is expected to open by the end of the week or early next week. Work continues south of Century, with utility shut-offs expected to be complete by next Friday, followed by project completion before moving to the north side, Larsson, and Boulder Circle. Progress is being made on solar projects, with the first round of state reimbursements received, and 11 projects are generating power. An update was also given on the river fountain, which experienced issues due to muskrats chewing into the line, causing shorts. An electrician is scheduled to assess if the motor or the line needs replacement, with hopes for operation this summer. A request was made for residents to 'adopt a storm drain' to help clear debris.

City Council Approves Updated Safe Routes to School Plan

The city council reviewed and approved the 2026 Safe Routes to School Plan, which aims to enhance safety and practicality for students walking and biking to school. This updated plan, developed over 18 months with input from the school district, city, parks and recreation, and law enforcement, includes recommendations for improving crossing safety, traffic management, and pedestrian/bicycle networks. It also serves as a tool for pursuing grant funding. The plan was presented by Blake Bernard of the Mid Minnesota Development Commission and will be further presented to the school board for their review and approval.

City Council Reschedules August Meetings Due to Primary Election

The City Council adjusted the date and time for the August 14th, 2026, canvassing board meeting to 11:00 a.m. due to the primary election on August 11th. They also rescheduled the August 11th, 2026, City Council meeting to 4:00 p.m. to comply with state law prohibiting public meetings between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on election days.
