Chanhassen City Council Approves Revised Permitted Burning Ordinance
The Chanhassen City Council considered modifications to Chapter 9 of the city code regarding permitted burning. The discussion focused on two options for setback requirements from buildings and public roadways, as well as language concerning wetlands and bluffs. Option one proposed 250-foot setbacks from buildings and 600 feet from roadways, while option two reduced these to 150 feet and 200 feet, respectively. The council ultimately adopted Option 2, with a modification to clarify that burn sites should not be located *in* wetlands or bluffs, rather than just not *impacting* them. Permit fees were also discussed, with a plan to bring revisions to the fee schedule to a future meeting. The ordinance aims to update best practices in fire prevention and address community feedback regarding burning regulations.
