Airport Hangar Nears Completion; Emergency Sewer Project to Use Pipe Bursting Technique
Updates were provided on the Gen Municipal Airport and an emergency sewer project. The transit hangar at the airport passed its FAA and Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission inspection with minor items to be addressed by the city, such as extending a water line for fire protection. The hangar is expected to be ready to house aircraft within 60-90 days. The emergency sewer project on Price Boulevard involves replacing approximately 3,500 feet of collapsed sewer line using a pipe bursting technique, which minimizes digging. This project is scheduled to start around July 4th and is expected to take about 120 days.
City Council Reviews Funding Request for Oklahoma State Garden Club Workshop
The council considered a funding request application for $500 for the Oklahoma State Garden Club wildflower workshop. The funds were utilized for state representatives, educational sessions on pollinators for the region, and event registration. Feedback indicated the event was successful, including a visit to local wildflower areas. The request met application deadlines and underwent secondary review by the tourism commission. The requested amount was within the allocated budget.
City Council Authorizes Bidding for New Sanitation Truck
The council discussed authorizing the city manager to advertise for bids on one new, unused sanitation truck with a square refuse body. The truck is budgeted for in the capital improvement plan for 2026, with an estimated expenditure between $270,000 and $350,000. The last sanitation truck was purchased approximately three years ago, and the city currently operates four trucks. The truck in question is about 10 years old.
City Council Considers Raising Capital Asset Threshold to $10,000
The council discussed and potentially approved raising the capitalization threshold for capital assets from $5,000 to $10,000. This change is recommended by auditors to improve the efficiency of tracking capital assets, as the previous $5,000 threshold was deemed time-consuming and not profitable in terms of effort versus value. This adjustment aligns with practices of many other municipalities and is expected to improve asset tracking.
