Garland ISD Approves 2026-2027 Budget Amidst Financial Planning

The Garland Independent School District Board of Trustees conducted a public hearing on the proposed 2026-2027 budget and tax rate. The proposed tax rate is $78.69, the same as the current year. Three budgets are presented for approval: general fund, debt service, and student nutrition services. The general fund projects revenues of $597.9 million and expenditures of $625.9 million, resulting in a deficit of $28,048,298. The debt service fund projects revenues of $137 million and expenditures of $142 million, with a deficit of $5.4 million. The student nutrition fund projects revenues of $41 million and expenditures of $43 million, with a deficit of $1.7 million, to be offset by fund balance. The board also approved budget transfers and amendments for these funds and considered a parameter order to refund existing bonds for debt service savings. The proposed budgets for the general fund, debt service fund, and student nutrition services fund for the 2026-2027 school year were approved.
