Diana Fowler and Maui Ricky from Fischer High School's Future Black Leaders club promoted their 7th annual Juneteenth Jubilee. The free event will feature over 50 vendors, including predominantly black-owned businesses, food trucks, music, and entertainment.
Council Approves Adjustments to 2026 Salary Ordinance
The council approved amendments to the 2026 salary ordinance to adjust comparable job market rates and reflect changes in position responsibilities. Adjustments include moving inspector and chief infrastructure inspector to higher salary grades in the engineering department, adding the traffic signal technician level two to specialty pays, adding a mental health support specialist and moving the vital records manager to a higher grade in the health department, moving the director of business solutions group to a higher grade, and adding a health and fitness supervisor at the community center. The rules were suspended to approve on first reading.
City Code Amended to Remove Panhandling Violation Following State Law Repeal
The council approved an amendment to Chapter 71 of the Fischer Code of Ordinances to remove the subsection regarding the violation for panhandling. This change aligns with the repeal of Indiana's criminal panhandling statute, which was deemed unconstitutional due to First Amendment free speech violations. The ordinance passed on first reading after suspending the rules.
Council Approves Bonds for Crossing Project
The council approved Ordinance 061526, authorizing the issuance of taxable economic development revenue bonds, series 2026, for the Crossing project. This ordinance repeals ordinance 051826C and was approved on first reading after suspending the rules. Deputy Mayor Ellie Hulk presented the ordinance, noting previous approvals of the project agreement and bond issuance. The ordinance's re-adoption is due to technical changes and EDC resolution approval.
