Annexation Petition for Montero Woods Tabled Pending City Attorney's Presence
The City Council discussed an annexation petition for Montero Woods. The item was moved to be tabled until the city attorney is present, as he is currently ill. The city attorney was scheduled to be present and the item was ultimately tabled until the June 22nd meeting, which begins at 5:30 PM. The project has already been rezoned within the city's extra-territorial zoning jurisdiction.
City Council Approves Consent Agenda Items, Including Fireworks for Independence 250 Celebration
The City Council approved the consent agenda items, which included several items such as TA03-26, TA04-26, the annual fee schedule, adoption of a resolution authorizing police K9 retirement, ratification of council community projects, and a TDA application for the Independence 250 Celebration to purchase a fireworks barge. All items on the consent agenda were approved with a single motion.
City Council Approves CUP for Covenant Classical Academy
The City Council considered and approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Covenant Classical Academy to operate a school at 1015 East Carolina Avenue. The request had previously been reviewed by the Technical Review Committee and the Planning Commission. The applicant addressed concerns regarding lighting and screening for adjacent residential properties. The school is an established program entering its fifth year with strong enrollment and will utilize the existing footprint of the former school building.
Holly Odette Reappointed to Tourism Development Authority
The City Council approved the reappointment of Ms. Holly Odette to the Tourism Development Authority (TDA) board. This appointment is a joint city/county appointment and will be forwarded to the county for their consideration. The motion to approve was made and seconded, followed by a roll call vote where all council members voted in favor.
Budget Ordinance Adoption Postponed Pending Further Review and Closed Session
The City Council discussed moving the consideration and adoption of a budget ordinance to a later time, specifically after a closed session. Councilman Morris expressed a need for further review and understanding of the budget before moving forward, particularly given his lack of clarity on certain aspects. The council agreed to hold this item open until after the closed session, with the intention of taking action on it then.
