City Adopts Regulations for Public EV Charging Stations
The City Council approved an ordinance amending Title VI, Motor Vehicles and Traffic, to create Chapter 7, establishing regulations for city-owned electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The ordinance aims to support economic development, tourism, and environmental sustainability by governing the use, operation, and enforcement of these stations, including locations at Lake Charleston, Linder Sports Complex, and Charleston Carnegie Public Library. It also restricts spaces to actively charging EVs and authorizes enforcement actions.
Water Interconnect Agreement with Mattoon Extended to Year-End
The City Council approved the third amendment to the Water Interconnect Agreement with the City of Mattoon, extending the agreement through December 31st, 2026. This extension provides time for both municipalities to finalize an updated agreement that clarifies maintenance responsibilities for their interconnected water distribution systems. The original agreement was established in 2025, with previous extensions through April 30th, 2026, and then June 30th, 2026.
City Council Approves $1,000 Tourism Grant for EIU Comic Fest
The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the expenditure of $1,000 in tourism funds for the EIU Booth Libraries EIU Comic Fest. The Charleston Tourism and Advisory Board unanimously approved this funding after their meeting on June 8th, 2026.
