Effingham Regional Growth Alliance Seeks $110,000 Dues from City for 2026
Courtney Yockey, President of the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance (ERGA), presented a request for the City of Effingham to rejoin the alliance for 2026 with annual dues of $110,000. This represents the same rate as previous years. The ERGA focuses on business retention and expansion, workforce development, community growth, and strategic economic development initiatives. Yockey highlighted the ERGA's work in 2025, including establishing 'Forge' (formerly the Effingham Regional Manufacturing Collaborative) to align workforce training with employer needs, and noted ongoing engagement in housing development, business expansion projects, and economic impact analysis. The alliance also serves as a resource for local businesses, assisting with expansion, incentives, and strategic planning. Several businesses, including Crest East Company and Flexengate, have benefited from ERGA's support. The city's financial contribution is seen as an investment that generates measurable returns through job creation and economic competitiveness.

The City Council discussed and approved a change order for the sidewalk replacement project, totaling $102,038.15. Farnsworth Group Awarded $387,261 Contract for Ford Avenue Connector Design
The City Council is considering a resolution for the Ford Avenue Connector Phase Two, which involves design engineering services. The project will extend Ford Avenue from its current location, through the Goldstein property, curving north to intersect with Rickleman and a new roundabout currently under design. The proposal from Farnsworth Group Incorporated for these services is $387,261. This amount is under budget and will be funded by the general fund and the Interstate North Business District fund. The council viewed this as a significant project for future economic development.
City Council Supports Renewal of High-Visibility St. Louis Billboard Contract
The Tourism Director proposed renewing the contract with Outfront Media for the St. Louis billboard, located on I-55 and I-64 near the Poplar Street Bridge. The current contract is due at the end of July, and renewing it promptly is necessary to secure the location, as it could otherwise be offered to other clients. The monthly cost is $1,320, totaling $34,320 over two years. This billboard is considered highly visible and effective, and its cost is covered by a state grant requiring expenditures outside a 50-mile radius of Effingham. The council expressed support for securing the billboard space and potentially refreshing its design.
Upcoming Community Events: Downtown Movie Night and Moxin Creek Festival
The Tourism Director announced upcoming community events: Downtown Movie Night on Friday, June 19th, featuring 'The Goonies' and organized by the Downtown Business Group and Heart Theater as a fundraiser. The Moxin Creek Festival is also scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at Lake Sarah, featuring POST Music Works and a lineup of performers. Both events encourage community participation.
