City Council Approves Intergovernmental Agreement for Fire Training Tower with Jefferson Fire Protection District
The City Council approved an ordinance for an intergovernmental agreement with the Jefferson Fire Protection District for a fire training tower. The Jefferson County Fire District received a grant for partial funding of the tower, a facility the Mount Vernon Fire Department has desired. The agreement includes shared use of the tower and requires the city to dedicate three acres in the Roland Lewis Industrial Park, which would be deeded to the fire district to comply with grant terms. First Reading of Ordinance for Wabash Communications Fiber Installation Agreement
The City Council held a first reading of an ordinance approving a right-of-way license agreement with Wabash Communications Cooperative. Wabash Communications is installing fiber optic cable on the west side, southwest, west, and northwest parts of Mount Vernon, extending into rural areas but also along Davidson and Veterans. This agreement mirrors the franchise agreement with Clearwave, and Wabash will be responsible for fixing any damage to public utilities during installation.
City Council Approves Waiving Bids for 2026 Street Maintenance Asphalt Milling
