Residents Voice Concerns Over Drainage and Mosquito Infestation in Brazos Area
Residents Greg Clem and Donna Clem raised concerns about drainage issues and mosquito infestation in the Brazos area, specifically along Timberline Drive. They described a ravine that has been excavated to bedrock, leading to stagnant water and a significant mosquito problem that impacts their ability to be outdoors. They stated that recent construction has not resolved the drainage issues, and efforts to elevate the area with dirt or grass have been washed away. The residents feel the city's current flood safety advice contradicts the neighborhood's conditions, where the only access can flood. They are concerned about the health implications of mosquito-borne illnesses and urged the city to address the problem.
City of Benbrook Designates Commercial Recorder as Official Newspaper
The City Council considered and adopted Resolution 2026-04, designating the Commercial Recorder as the official newspaper of the City of Benbrook. This decision followed a staff evaluation of alternative publications due to increased rates and reduced print frequency from the previous newspaper, the Four-Star Telegram. The Commercial Recorder was chosen for its compliance with Texas Government Code requirements, its longer history of serving Tarrant County since 1903, and its significantly lower publication rates, estimated to save the city approximately 68% compared to the Four-Star Telegram's current charges. The resolution was approved by the council.
Cowtown Amateur Radio Club Invites City Council to Community Support Event
Jeff Bailey, representing the Cowtown Amateur Radio Club, invited City Council members to their annual Field Day event at Trinity Park Pavilion 4 and 5 on June 27th-28th. He explained that amateur radio operators provide crucial community support, particularly as storm spotters for the Fort Worth-Tarrant County RACES, relaying information to the National Weather Service and Emergency Operations Centers. Bailey, who is also assigned to the Benbrook EOC as a radio operator, emphasized the importance of amateur radio in emergency communication. The event aims to showcase amateur radio's capabilities, from local to global communication, and invites attendees to experience operating a radio themselves.
