City Council Votes to Vacate All Boards and Committees, Reappoints Council Members to CDC
The City Council voted to stop all boards and committees for appointments and reappointments, effectively removing all current members and requiring them to reapply. This decision was made despite arguments that it was disrespectful to current volunteers and could disrupt ongoing city business, particularly regarding upcoming meetings for Planning and Zoning (PNZ) and Zoning Board of Adjustments (ZBA). The motion passed with a 5-2 vote, with Councilman Wallace dissenting and Mayor Boardingham abstaining. Following this, the council proceeded to vacate the Board of Directors of the Community Development Corporation (CDC) and appointed three council members to fill those positions: Mayor Pro Tem Coleman, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Cook, and Councilwoman Carpenter. Applications for citizen positions on the CDC board will be accepted at a later date.
