Watauga Provides ARPA Spending Update, Details Infrastructure and Public Safety Investments
The City of Watauga presented a progress report on the allocation and expenditure of funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The city was awarded over $6 million in 2022, which has been utilized for infrastructure projects, employee hiring and retention, and essential equipment purchases. Key projects discussed include water to wastewater projects at Summertime Lane, Park Vista Stormwater Rehabilitation, lead pipe identification, restoration of several city positions, lead bank liability reduction, creation of new positions (Grant Manager, HR Generalist), police special unit program funding, recruitment and retention incentives for police hires, a public works generator, personal protective equipment for the fire department, remote access devices, cybersecurity enhancements, software for grant compliance, and municipal court software enhancements. Some funds were not fully expended due to grant limitations on membership costs extending beyond 2024.
Watauga Fire Department Celebrates 2026 Fire Camp Graduates, Highlights Community Impact
The Watauga Fire Department presented a progress report on their 2026 Fire Camp. The camp, themed 'Impact,' focused on teaching young individuals leadership, service, and character, encouraging them to 'leave everything better than they found it.' The presentation included a video showcasing the campers' activities and acknowledged the contributions of staff, volunteers, and partner departments like the Watauga Police Department. The department also announced upcoming programs including the second Watauga Public Safety Academy in the fall and their first annual open house on October 3rd.
