Westwood Approves Historic Conservation Restriction Protecting Over 1,100 Acres

The Select Board voted to approve the conservation restriction for over 1,100 acres of land owned by Hale Education and The Trustees of Reservations. This restriction permanently protects the land from development, ensuring its conservation for public access and environmental benefits such as habitat preservation and carbon sequestration. The agreement involves over 972 acres in Westwood and an additional 137 acres in Dover. Hale Education will continue to own and operate the land within defined primary program areas, totaling under 220 acres, which allows for future growth while preserving key resources. The approval is a culmination of years of work by various stakeholders, including Westwood residents, conservation commissions, and the Trustees.

Roche Bros. Supermarkets received approval for an all-alcohol Section 15 off-premises license at 338 Washington Street. The proposed alcohol sales area will be 1,026 sq ft, a slight increase from their current beer and wine area. Store hours remain unchanged, and alcohol sales hours will also be consistent with current offerings. The Alcohol Review Committee unanimously recommended approval, pending final state and safety inspections.
