SK Hynix Project Traffic Plan Modified, Satellite Parking Explored, Road Repairs Discussed

The Traffic Commission received an update on traffic plans for the SK Hynix construction project, detailing modifications to reduce peak vehicle impact. Originally, all personnel were to be moved to Site B, increasing traffic significantly. The revised plan involves using a temporary parking area (Site A) west of Yeager Road, reducing the number of vehicles entering the main site. Heavy truck traffic routes remain unchanged. Several intersection improvements are planned, including temporary traffic signals at Jaeger and Calvert, and a permanent signal at County Road 500 North and River Road. Site A will feature new turn lanes and a pedestrian crossing. Gate 3 at the main site will revert to stop control. The total traffic limit remains 1100 vehicles per hour, with parking capacity adjusted between the main site and Site A. A satellite parking location near Purdue University on Cherry Lane is also being explored to further reduce on-site traffic, utilizing shuttle buses instead of 800-1000 personal vehicles. State-of-the-art traffic signals with 24/7 monitoring and cameras are being installed. Additionally, plans include addressing problematic potholes on South River Road with permanent repairs and drainage solutions, and relocating a HAWK signal to Case and Park on Cumberland Avenue to improve pedestrian safety. Concerns were raised about the impact of construction traffic on bike paths and the need for permanent road repairs.
