Paul Clark Honored for Over Two Decades of Service to Centerville Planning Commission
The City Council recognized Paul Clark for his over two decades of dedicated service to the city of Centerville, particularly his leadership as Chair of the Planning Commission since June 16, 2003. During his tenure, Clark guided significant residential, commercial, and redevelopment projects that shaped the community's growth. He demonstrated professionalism, fairness, and integrity, earning respect from various stakeholders. Clark will continue to serve on the Planning Commission. The recognition highlighted his instrumental role in projects like Yankee Trace, Cornerstone North, Miami Valley South, Kroger Marketplace, Craters and City Barbecue, Panera site redevelopment, Bethany Lutheran, St. Leonard's, Centerville High School, Washington Centerville Park District, Create the Vision initiative, and Allure apartments. He also thanked city council, staff, and his wife, Melissa, for their support.
Centerville Welcomes Summer Interns Contributing to Various City Departments
The City Council meeting featured an introduction of eight summer interns. These interns, part of a larger group of 12-13, are serving in various departments including Golf Operations, Finance and Accounting, Economic Development, Communications, Planning, Finance, GIS, and Events. Interns shared brief overviews of their roles and experiences, highlighting projects such as updating software, financial reconciliations, developing artist maps, managing social media and websites, working on UDO rewrites, creating base maps, digitizing employee files, and assisting with event planning. The program aims to provide interns with public service experience and contribute to city operations.
AES Ohio Rate Plan Update and Age-Friendly Community Initiatives Discussed
Councilmember Joanne Rouse provided an update on AES Ohio's new three-year rate plan for 2027-2029, a new process introduced by the state for advance rate planning, subject to PUCO review. She advised residents to check the PUCO website for 'apples-to-apples' comparisons, noting that AES Ohio's current price to compare is 10.9 cents per kilowatt hour, which is higher than the city's current aggregation plan. Additionally, Rouse mentioned a productive meeting regarding an age-friendly community initiative, now a combined effort with the township, which aims to explore grants and address needs such as home assistance for tasks like changing light bulbs and connecting residents with handymen services.
Preliminary Development Plan for Hazelmont at Yankee Trace Approved with Conditions
The City Council reviewed and approved the preliminary development plan for Hazelmont at Yankee Trace, located at the northwest corner of Sawgrass Boulevard and Sheehan Road. The project proposes 22 single-family detached homes on approximately 9.8 acres, zoned R1C with a lifestyle community overlay. Key aspects include compliance with Yankee Trace branding standards, enhanced landscaping, and a variance to exceed the maximum cul-de-sac length. The approval includes 10 conditions, addressing public and utility review comments, wetland permits, recreational facilities, parking restrictions, parkland dedication fees, name/logo usage, gateway designs, homeowners association establishment, and stormwater management improvements, particularly concerning the existing drainage issues raised by residents of Sandwich Court.
City Council Approves Rezoning of 6020 Bigger Road to Residential Planned Development
The City Council held a public hearing and approved Ordinance 09-26, which rezones a 0.079-acre parcel at 6020 Bigger Road from Office Service District to Residential Planned Development District. The property, formerly a church and vacant for three years, will now allow for a two-family residence, consisting of a single-family home and an accessory dwelling unit. This reversion to its original zoning classification upon annexation in 1967 aligns with the adjacent residential planned development zoning to the south and southwest.
