Councilmember Expresses Strong Opposition to Data Centers and Solar Farms

Councilmember Boyle expressed strong opposition to data centers and solar farms in West Carrollton and surrounding communities. He believes West Carrollton does not have suitable property for data centers and criticizes other cities for caving to corporate interests, leading to issues with waterways and farmland. Boyle also finds the placement of solar farms on easy ground, instead of parking lots, roadsides, or brownfields, to be 'asinine.' He supports alternative uses for land, such as the ongoing development of the river district and potential for the wastewater Adgon plant to become a training facility. He explicitly stated his opposition to data centers and solar farms unless for personal use.

Resident Inquires About Fiber Internet Availability Amidst Delays

Alan Beck inquired about the availability of fiber internet services in West Carrollton. He noted that representatives from Alta Fiber had discussed availability in Fall 2023, but there has been no progress since. An engineer from AltaFiber informed him that the area is not currently on their agenda. ATT and other fiber companies are also not available. Beck expressed a need for stable, reliable internet, as his current service (Spectrum) is inconsistent, and he works from home. Assistant City Manager Wendt offered to follow up with Mr. Beck to provide information on ATT's current fiber installations in the community and to check on the status of AltaFiber.
