Ball Farm Drainage District Established to Cover Subdivision's Stormwater Costs
Local law number four establishes the Ball Farm Drainage District to ensure that all costs associated with stormwater management, drainage infrastructure, maintenance, and watershed protection within the subdivision are paid for by the property owners in that development, not by the town's taxpayers. This is part of the cluster subdivision approved for the Ball Farm property.
Town Undergoing Comprehensive Energy Audit; Key Infrastructure Projects Identified
Mayor Dwire discussed the town's energy audit initiative, where Verigy is auditing every town building, including pump stations and town hall facilities, to identify cost-saving mechanisms and necessary investments. This is a no-cost audit for the town. Additionally, three priority projects for the IUP (Intended Use Plan) for New York State have been identified: Mountain Lake Park sewer system, Pine Island Water Treatment Plant, and a lead service line inventory. The town is also pursuing a battery storage law.
Updates on Garden Tour, Summerfest, Farmers Market, and Chamber of Commerce Events
Councilman Matting provided updates on various community events and initiatives. The 32nd annual Countryside Garden Tour is on July 11th, and Summerfest, featuring vendors and sales, is also on July 11th in the village of Warwick. Winslow Therapeutic Center is hiring. The Florida Farmers Market is ongoing Tuesdays. The Florida Chamber of Commerce mixer is July 21st, and they encourage shopping local during ongoing infrastructure improvements. Updates were also provided for the Greenwood Lake Chamber of Commerce (bed race, supply store anniversary) and the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce (monthly meeting, summer social).
Ball Farm Property Approved for Agricultural Overlay Protection District
The town board adopted a resolution regarding the request for participation in the Agricultural Overlay Protection District (APO) for the Ball Farm LLC and Honey Crisp Developers LLC parcel (section 53, block 1, lot 37.2, approx. 409 acres). The board determined the parcel meets APO requirements and is eligible for its benefits. The zoning law appendix and map will be updated to reflect this inclusion. This aligns with the town's goal of encouraging cluster subdivisions and preserving open space while supporting agriculture.
New Pools Open, Food Truck Fest Announced, Park Safety Emphasized
Recreation Director Sam reported on the successful ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new pools, highlighting the new kiddie pool and the overall pool complex. The pools are now open seven days a week from 10 am to 6 pm, with swim lessons starting soon. Pool closing announcements are made on Facebook, and a new Team Reach app is available for swim parents. The department is preparing for the food truck fest on July 2nd, a fundraising event in partnership with 'Small Things'. New signs and crosswalks have been added to the park for safety, especially for children attending summer camps. Residents are urged to slow down in parks and at crosswalks due to increased child activity.
