Public Hearings Held for Child Daycare Facility Zoning and Manhagen Avenue Rezoning
A public hearing was opened regarding a proposed zoning amendment for a child daycare facility in the C3A district. Another public hearing addressed the proposed rezoning of 205-207 Manhagen Avenue from C2 to C3A. Both hearings were closed after no public or council comments.

Alderman John Francois congratulated the New York Knicks on their championship and thanked the street department for maintaining high grass. Alderman Gomez announced a meeting of the Community Communication and Historical Society Committee to address issues with Channel 20. Alderman Green expressed hope for the repair of Channel 20 and mentioned a Middletown Security versus Varsity Baseball game benefiting Little League.
City Council Approves Block Party, Zoning Amendments, Budget Adjustments, and Accepts Donations
A resolution was approved authorizing a block party on Boke Avenue. Another resolution amended the zoning code regarding used car sales offices in I-1 and I-2 districts. A third resolution changed the date of the first common council meeting in August. A fourth resolution called for a public hearing on a proposed zoning amendment to allow outdoor vehicle storage facilities in the I-2 district. A resolution authorized an adjustment to the 2026 Senior Center budget. A resolution accepted a scholarship donation from the Middletown Lions Club. A resolution approved the 2026 Community Development Block Grant Action Plan. A resolution accepted reimbursement from a DOJ, Narco, and ATF Task Force. A resolution authorized an agreement with Cannon USA Inc. for municipal copier equipment. A resolution authorized a transfer within the fire department budget. Finally, a resolution amended Chapter 123 of the Zoning Code to permit child daycare facilities in the C3A district.
Recreation Department Updates on Programs, Pool Schedule, and Summer Feeding Initiative
Superintendent of Recreation provided an update on various youth and adult programming, including free programs like Teen and Youth Open Gym, Storytime, Wreck and Connect, and a fishing derby. Paid programming includes Little Wreckers Toddler programming, art classes, and tennis. Adult programming includes pickleball, volleyball, and fitness classes. Senior activities and upcoming trips were also detailed. Changes to pool operations for the summer, including closure on Mondays for cleaning and staffing, were announced. A summer kickoff party on June 30th at Davidge Park was detailed. The summer feeding program in parks was highlighted, offering free lunch and dinner meals for youth under 18, with specific site and time details provided.
Early Voting Hours Updated, Channel 20 Technical Issues Persist, Yard Sale Success Noted
City Clerk McCormick reminded residents about early voting at the Senior Center and noted a change in hours for Thursday, June 18th, ending at 3 p.m. He addressed ongoing issues with Channel 20, stating that video has been restored but sound is still problematic due to a needed component replacement. He assured that meetings are available on social media and will be rerun on Channel 20 once audio is fixed. He also thanked the Economic Community Development Office for the use of Erieway Park during the citywide yard sale.
