Swansea Town Beach to Host Yoga Activities This Summer
The Swansea Board of Selectmen approved applications for yoga activities at the Swansea Town Beach. Lighthouse Sanctuary, located at 1700 GAR Highway in Somerset, will offer classes on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. from June 4th, 2026, through September 3rd, 2026. Seoul Shine Yoga, located at 1161 GAR Highway in Swansea, will offer classes on Monday evenings at 6 p.m. from June 8th, 2026, through September 1st, 2026. Both applicants have submitted the required paperwork, including certificates of insurance and applications. The board noted that these activities have proven popular and are a great opportunity for the community. Both applications were approved unanimously.
Swansea Approves $18,500 for Hortonville and Hales Hill Road Drainage Project
The Swansea Board of Selectmen approved a $18,500 project request for drainage improvements on Hortonville Road and Hales Hill Road. This project addresses flooding issues caused by inadequate culverts, particularly affecting a property on Hales Hill Road during heavy rain. The project is being funded through a combination of sources: a $31,000 FEMA grant, a $10,000 warrant article for matching funds, and this $18,500 request from Chapter 90 funds to cover the remaining engineering and project costs. The total engineering service cost was $60,000. The project aims to replace culverts and improve drainage. The board unanimously approved the request.
Celine Brown Appointed Interim Town Clerk for Swansea
The Swansea Board of Selectmen voted to appoint Celine Brown as Interim Town Clerk, effective June 29th, 2026, through April 12th, 2027. This appointment encompasses four key roles associated with the Town Clerk position: Records Access Officer, Board of Registrars member, Liaison for State Ethics Conflict of Interest Training, and Burial Agent for Swansea. Swansea Fire Department Affirms Appointment of Camden Huck as Full-Time Fire Dispatcher
The Swansea Board of Selectmen affirmed the appointment of Camden Huck as a full-time fire dispatcher for the Swansea Fire Department, effective June 8th, 2026. This affirmation is in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 48, Section 42, which outlines appointing authority for fire departments. Chief Eric Hayter appointed Huck, citing his education, previous experience as a per diem dispatcher, current part-time role, strong work ethic, and positive contributions to the department. The board unanimously affirmed the appointment.
Joshua Robinson Appointed Assistant Sewer Superintendent in Swansea
Joshua Robinson was appointed Assistant Sewer Superintendent for the town of Swansea, effective July 1st, 2026. This is a new position created to help oversee construction and maintain the sewer system, including pump stations. Robinson has been with the highway department for 14 years, currently serving as interim foreman. He has experience in construction work and inspections. He has also been proactively observing sewer system operations in neighboring towns. Robinson is a Swansea resident and was recommended by the Highway Director and interviewed and recommended by the sewer commissioner. His current position as a heavy equipment operator will become vacant and may be held for up to three months per his union contract, with a replacement anticipated in October. The position is fully budgeted, and any replacement for his vacated role will also fit within the budget model. The appointment was approved unanimously.
