City Retirement System Shows Strong Investment Performance in May
The Board of Investment Commissioners reviewed the investment performance of the City of Broadway's Employee Retirement System for the month of May and year-to-date. The retirement system portfolio showed strong returns, with a 2.6% return in May and a 7.1% return year-to-date, primarily driven by public equities. The market environment was favorable due to strong corporate earnings and optimism regarding Middle East tensions. The total market value of the portfolio was $636.3 million. Fixed income returns were largely flat, while alternative investments, specifically hedge funds, experienced a negative return of -3.7% year-to-date. The board also noted positive long-term performance for various trusts, significantly exceeding their objectives. A financial reconciliation report detailing market value and cash flows, including a $12 million contribution and $7.5 million in pension payroll distributions, was also presented. The board approved the investment performance analysis and dividend trust reports.
