City Council Approves FY2027 Staffing and Compensation Ordinance
The City Council reviewed and approved Bill 6401 on its second reading, concerning the fiscal year 2027 staffing and compensation ordinance. This ordinance establishes employee compensation plans and staffing levels for FY2027. Key changes include a 3% across-the-board wage increase, a reduction of one account clerk due to the new tax collection contract, the addition of two part-time flight linemen and a reduction of one full-time flight lineman at the airport, and the addition of two part-time communication officers to assist with coverage. The ordinance repeals the FY2026 compensation plan and staffing authorization. The bill passed unanimously.
City Council Approves FY2026 Budget Amendment
The City Council held the second reading and consideration of Bill 6399, an amendment to the fiscal year 2026 budget. This amendment addresses expenditures that were either unbudgeted or exceeded budget, including increased costs for insurance premiums, expenses related to the 2024 tornado cleanup, and tax collection fees from new agreements with Scott and New Madrid County. Adjustments were also made for grant matches where full expenditures needed to be budgeted after grant awards. The bill passed unanimously.
City Renews Tourism and Marketing Agreement with Chamber of Commerce
The City Council approved the renewal of the operating agreement with the Sikeston Regional Chamber of Commerce for tourism and marketing promotional services. This agreement extends the current contract, originally executed in 2023 for a three-year term, for another three years. There are no monetary changes; the city passes collected bed tax revenue to the chamber for its operating budget. Minor changes include the chamber no longer maintaining an 800 number and an update to the website agreement, with the chamber now maintaining the new website. The renewal passed unanimously.
