Concerns Raised Over Condition of Publicly Displayed American Flags; Community Donations Sought
Councilman Boyer expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of American flags displayed along Westwood Boulevard and Pine Street, noting they are torn, shredded, faded, and some poles are broken. He encouraged the responsible organization (likely Boy Scouts and veterans) to bring the flags up to standard or remove them. The discussion revealed that the flags are maintained through community donations, with VFW and Boy Scout Troop 166 involved. Challenges include wear and tear, vandalism, and theft, with flag replacement costs estimated at $25 per unit including poles. Donations can be sent to Boy Scout Troop 166 First Christian Church or the local VFW.
