City Council Approves $67,000 Pavement and Sidewalk Condition Analysis Contract
The council approved Resolution 2026-33, authorizing the city manager to enter into a professional services agreement with Pavement Management Group for $67,000. This agreement is for performing condition rating analysis for streets, shared use paths, and sidewalks, which will be incorporated into the 2026 pavement conditions analysis. This comprehensive assessment will provide detailed data, including GIS mapping and video files, to inform the city's street and path maintenance program and future capital improvement planning, especially concerning sidewalk maintenance and policy considerations.
City Council Grants Final Acceptance of Redwoodwood Development Improvements
Ordinance 2026-13 was adopted, granting final acceptance of the public improvements for the Redwoodwood development. These improvements, primarily roadway and sidewalk construction, along with some public sanitary sewer extension, have been completed and meet all city requirements and standards. The adoption of this ordinance formally accepts the infrastructure, allowing the city to fulfill economic development obligations and incentives associated with the development.
City Council Approves NOPEC Electricity Aggregation Program
The council considered and adopted two ordinances related to the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) electricity aggregation program. Ordinance 2026-11 authorizes the city to enter into an agreement with NOPEC, establishing the program and its bylaws. Ordinance 2026-12 approves the plan of operation and governance for this program. The adoption of these ordinances allows residents the opportunity to participate in an electricity aggregation program with the potential for savings, and NOPEC expects to provide savings from day one. The program offers flexibility, allowing residents to opt-in or opt-out, with no membership or early termination fees.
City Manager Updates Council on Tree Clearing, Intersection Project, and Engineering Staffing
The City Manager reported on several ongoing matters. Tree clearing is authorized to begin on property adjacent to the former chamber building to reveal the terrain. The city is working on an intersection improvement project at Holman's Diets, which requires coordination due to part of the intersection being outside the city limits; a formal request for qualifications and proposals may be necessary if initial quotes exceed $79,000. The engineering department is facing a staffing shortage with one full-time position vacant, and efforts are underway to hire a replacement, possibly supplemented by additional hours from EMHT for ongoing infrastructure projects.
