This includes an additional $75,000 for final accessibility changes in the council chambers at City Hall, $30,000 for essential maintenance of the Alum Creek Reservoir through the Water Department, and $75,000 for the Service Department to cover increased costs for city fleet repair parts. The ordinance was approved unanimously.
Westerville to Purchase New Hydro Excavation Truck for Utilities
The city manager was authorized to purchase a new hydro excavation truck from Brown Equipment Company Inc. through the SourceWell Cooperative Contract for $631,000. This purchase supports the successful reorganization within the department, creating dedicated water and sewer crews who both require the specialized truck. The hydro excavation truck performs multiple functions, including digging, jetting sewers, and cleaning storm inlets, providing essential operational capabilities and redundancy for city utilities.
Westerville Authorizes Purchase of Computer Room Air Conditioning Equipment
The city manager was authorized to purchase new computer room air conditioning (CRAC) equipment from Vertiv Corporation. This purchase is necessary due to the failure of one of seven existing CRAC units, which has reduced data center capacity. The ability to purchase a like unit that is plug-and-play with the existing system presents a timely opportunity. The city manager has the authority to cancel the purchase if the specified equipment is not available within approximately 30 days.
Westerville Modernizes E-Bike and Bicycle Regulations
The council discussed and moved towards adopting amendments to city traffic codes to modernize regulations for bicycles, electric bicycles, and personal transportation devices. Concerns about enforcement were addressed, with emphasis on the presence of new bike officers for education and visibility on trails, paths, and uptown areas. The ordinance includes provisions for impounding electric bikes if misused, with a focus on educating riders about rules and safety. The potential for repeat offenders and bike ownership verification was also discussed, with the police department outlining procedures for impoundment and stolen bike identification.
