During the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees meeting, a public comment was made by Mr. Robert, responding to a previous speaker. Pasadena ISD Board Approves New Hires, Contract Renewals, and Educational Program Applications

The Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees approved several personnel appointments and contract renewals. New speech-language pathologists Angeli Hinojosa, Valeria Macedo, and Carla Romero Saracho were approved for the special education department for the 2026-2027 school year. A contract renewal with Gallagher Benefit Services for employee benefits and insurance consulting was approved for years 3-5. The board also approved the T-TESS teacher appraisal calendar and local procedures for 2026-2027. Additionally, a partnership agreement with Houston Methodist Hospital System for the 2026-2027 school year and a subscription with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission were approved. Pasadena ISD Approves Student Travel, Hospital Partnership, and Recognizes Literacy Program

The J. Frank Dobie High School orchestra students were approved to travel to Orlando, Florida, from March 3-6, 2027, to perform and participate in a clinic. The approximate cost per student is $2,310, to be funded by students. Additionally, a partnership agreement was approved between Pasadena ISD and Houston Methodist Hospital System for the 2026-2027 school year. The board also recognized the non-profit organization Cycle Houston for its work since 2016 in improving literacy among second graders in Title 1 schools. Cycle Houston has awarded over 11,000 bicycles to second graders in the district.

Pasadena ISD Board Discusses Proposed Budget, Projects $29.2M Deficit Amid Enrollment Decline

The Pasadena Independent School District Board of Trustees held a public hearing for the proposed budget and tax rate for the 2026-2027 school year. Dr. Tamika Alford-Stephens, CFO, presented the budget, highlighting a projected deficit of $29,230,476 in the general fund, primarily due to a significant decline in student enrollment. The district is forecasting a decrease of approximately 1,400 students for the upcoming year, compared to a previous forecast of 1,000 students. The food service fund and debt service fund are projected to be balanced. Proposed tax rates are 0.8254 cents for maintenance and operations and 0.3400 cents for interest and sinking. The board will formally adopt the proposed tax rates after receiving certified values in late July or early August. During the meeting, the board also approved budget amendments for May and June 2026, and adopted the proposed budget for the 2026-2027 school year.

Pasadena ISD Approves Easement Conveyance, Softball Complex Upgrades, and Construction Contracts

The board considered and approved the conveyance of a storm sewer easement on the western property line of Jensen Elementary School to 777 Houston Group LLC for $10. The company is developing duplexes on the north end of their property, and the easement is an extension of an existing one to accommodate their detention pond. The board also discussed and approved an allowance expenditure authorization (AEA) of $54,000 for the Pasadena ISD softball complex project, which involves installing separate switches for lights to create a backup system and improve functionality and safety. Additionally, a construction contract with Affordable Floors Inc. for the 2022 bond flooring replacement project and a contract with ICI Construction Inc. for the 2022 bond painting package were approved.
