Board of Selectmen Meeting - 06/22/2026

Updates on Road Projects, Bylaw Review Committee, and Public Safety Staffing
The Board of Selectmen discussed and planned for the Bylaw Review Committee, appointing one member and planning to reach out to a previous member. The Town Manager provided an update on new police recruits. The DPW Director provided updates on multiple road and bridge projects, including the Mendon Road Bridge, John Circle/Del Mar neighborhood roads, Church Avenue, Sutton Street intersection, Church Street Extension and Linwood Avenue arch bridges, and the Walmart intersection. There was also an update on the LEAF recycling facility and Route 122 sidewalk and paving projects. The board also discussed the upcoming replacement of the five-year Band-Aid and the need for future planning.
Board of Selectmen Approves Multiple Appointments and Accepts Resignations
The Board of Selectmen approved several appointments and resignations. David Blavelt resigned from the Historical Commission, and Caleb Smith resigned from the Youth Commission/Committee. Paula Dumont was appointed to the Historical Commission, filling a vacant seat. Pam Mason was appointed as Council on Aging Agent/Administrative Assistant, and Mark Rampino was appointed as a heavy equipment operator for the highway department. Thomas Valdivia and Christopher Zanchi were appointed as Trustees of Soldier Memorials. In a joint meeting with the School Committee, Erin Meagher was appointed to the School Committee. The board also affirmed annual reappointments for the Town Manager and Board of Selectmen.
National Grid Pole Installation Approved on Cross Street, Mendon Road, and Main Street
The Board of Selectmen reviewed and approved three National Grid petitions to install new utility poles on Cross Street, Mendon Road, and Main Street. The public hearings for each petition were opened, closed, and subsequently approved by the board. All petitions were approved unanimously.
School Committee Candidate Interviews Highlight Key Educational Issues; Erin Meagher Appointed
During the School Committee candidate interviews, candidates discussed the role of public education, the challenges facing schools, and how they would collaborate with other boards and address issues like bullying. Several candidates emphasized the importance of literacy, retention, and supporting special education needs. Candidates also discussed the importance of transparency and communication with the town. Ultimately, Erin Meagher was appointed to the School Committee. The board also discussed the need to plan for future facility needs beyond the current 'five-year Band-Aid'.
