Hopkinton Select Board Authorizes Tree Removal for EMC Park Sidewalk Project
The Select Board authorized the Tree Warden to remove 19 trees on town property at EMC Park for a new sidewalk project. The decision was made after a public hearing where objections were raised. The tree removal is conditional upon approval from the Open Space Preservation Commission for three specific trees. The board also recommended that the Parks and Recreation Commission consider replacing some of the removed trees elsewhere on town property, with potential funding from the Tree Warden's budget.

Hopkinton Select Board to Solicit Community Input on Elmwood School's Future
The Select Board discussed the process for determining the future of the Elmwood School once it is no longer used by the school department. Options include appointing a special committee for community involvement and recommendations, using consultant services, or having the Permanent Building Committee (PBC) handle the process. While some favored a new committee for community engagement, others expressed concern about process speed and the PBC's role. The board decided to put out a call for community interest in serving on a committee and to develop a draft charter for such a committee to be discussed at a future meeting, with the PBC as a fallback if community involvement is insufficient.

Sewer rates will increase by 30%, adding $23.32 per month for the average residential user. A discount of up to $200 per year on water and sewer bills was approved for eligible residents who receive property tax exemptions.
