New Berlin Public Library Reports Strong Performance, New Services, and Facility Upgrades
The Director of the New Berlin Public Library presented an update highlighting strong mid-year performance comparable to 2025, with approximately 20,000 visitors per month and 30,000 items checked out. Children's and adult materials are each split at 15,000 checkouts. Digital collection usage is at roughly 18% and increasing, supported by the Libby app. New services include access to the Journal Sentinel online via the NewsBank database and a new print-from-device system, funded by grants. The library's RFID system has been upgraded, and the youth program room has been transformed into a 'Dinosaur Discovery Den' for the summer reading program, 'Unearth a Story.' Facility upgrades, including gutters, railing, and an elevator repair (using a refurbished unit at a lower cost), have been completed. The library is adapting to changes in the Waukesha County library system plan, which will result in reductions to the library materials budget and the number of required computers, deemed fair by the director. The priority remains making the library a vibrant, welcoming community space.
