Fifth Annual 'Fishing with Fathers' Event Praised for Community Engagement

City Approves Claims Dockets, Travel, and Bank Account Signatory Changes
The City Clerk requested and received board approval for the June 2nd, 2026, claims docket and the June 2nd, 2026, mini claims docket. Additionally, approval was granted for Alderman Davis to attend the Mississippi Association of Self-Insured Annual Conference from September 23rd-26th in Gulf Shores. The board also approved a resolution reassigning signatories on the city's bank accounts due to Pam Patterson's retirement, replacing her with Chief Deputy Clerk Ms. Denise Bell.
Natchez Code Enforcement Implements Assessment Liens for Improved Property Debt Collection
Sergeant Kelly presented a report on code enforcement progress since April 28th, 2026, detailing the process of inspections, warning letters, citations, adjudications, cleanup plans, and re-entries. Nine citations have been written, and the properties are processed based on adjudication date. Currently, there are 65 adjudicated properties, with 2025 properties prioritized for cleanup before 2026 properties. Code enforcement has inspected over 115 new properties this year, with 68 cleared, nine adjudicated, nine cited, three before the preservation commission, 18 works in progress, and eight pending. The board voted to approve the assessment lien process, requiring property owners to satisfy outstanding debts before paying property taxes, as a more effective collection method than the municipal intercept company procedure, which was found ineffective for out-of-state property owners. The decision was made to hold a meeting with the circuit clerk, tax collector, and attorney to refine this process.
Community Events Highlighted: 'Fishing with Fathers' Success and July 4th Celebration Plans
Alderman Davis reported positively on the 'Fishing with Fathers' event, noting strong attendance from various surrounding counties despite the rain, and expressed commitment to continuing the event. He thanked sponsors including Walmart, Natchez Transit, Delta Bank, Home Bank, Wildlife and Fishery, the police chief, fire chief, Parks and Recreation staff (Ryan and Dylan), and Ms. Hall. Alderman Maroney reminded attendees about the upcoming July 4th weekend events, including a parade, live music, and fireworks at the bluff, featuring bands like Epic Front Brass Band, Mirror Got Soul, Cha-Cha-Boo, and The Remedy.
