Miramar Reiterates Strong Opposition to Waste-to-Energy Incinerator Near Airport West

He then read into the record a letter sent to Miami-Dade County officials expressing Miramar's continued strong opposition to siting a waste-to-energy incinerator near Airport West, the Broward County line, or Everglades restoration areas. The letter detailed substantive, scientific, environmental, public health, fiscal, and moral objections, citing risks of airborne contaminants, incompatibility with Everglades restoration, lack of transparency in negotiations, and the unsuitability of incineration as a clean solution. The city urged Miami-Dade County to release documents related to the proposal.

The City Commission voted to continue Item 17, regarding a resolution of the City Commission of the City of Miramar, Florida, authorizing the purchase of services for complete refurbishment of elevators at Town Center Buildings, to the meeting of July 8th, 2026. Staff requested the continuance.
