Interim Town Administrator's Contract Extended Through August 15th

The Select Board discussed and voted on the responsibility for answering Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. It was clarified that Chelsea typically handles these requests, forwarding them to relevant departments. Peter Morren, the interim town administrator, will officially conclude his term on June 19th but has expressed willingness to extend his hours and employment to assist until a new town administrator is hired. The board discussed and voted to approve an extension of Peter Morren's employment agreement through August 15th, at no more than 20 hours per week, to ensure continuity.

Town Officials Reappointed; Debate Over Town Counsel's Role

The Select Board voted to reappoint several town officials to their positions, including Alexander Forbes (Animal Control Officer), Joselyn Stafier (Assistant Animal Control Officer), Andrew Stewart (Building Commissioner), Arthur Shaw (Emergency Management Director), Aldo Bertoni (Plumbing and Gas Inspector), Karen Pette (Veterans Agent), Lisa Pototts (Deputy Veterans Agent), and David Kumleti (Wiring Inspector). Override Budget 3C Fails to Make July Ballot

The Select Board discussed and voted on adding override budget 3C to the July 25th ballot. This follows a town meeting vote to approve 3C as an override on top of the base budget 3A. The exact vote count at town meeting was not recalled, but it was noted as a simple raise of hands and involved approximately 1,200 attendees. The motion to add override budget 3C to the ballot was not seconded and therefore did not pass.

Select Board Divided on Town Administrator Candidates

The Select Board discussed candidates for the Town Administrator position. Mr. Cus stepped down, leaving two primary candidates: Peter Caruso and Kevin Degman. Mr. Kelly expressed a strong preference for Mr. Langel, citing his track record and experience in similar municipalities, while expressing concerns about potential development push if Mr. Langel were hired. Mr. Smith, however, advocated for Mr. Caruso, highlighting his private sector experience and success in smaller communities, and expressed concerns about Mr. Langel's potential to promote development. Mr. Smith also noted that Mr. Degman might be too 'green' for the role, similar to a previous candidate, Mr. Dan Rio. The discussion revolved around balancing experience with concerns about future development and fiscal management.
