Select Board Approves Numerous Special One-Day Alcohol Licenses for Summer Events
The Select Board considered and approved multiple special one-day wine and malt beverage licenses for various summer events hosted by different breweries. These licenses were for events such as the Summer Solstice at World's End, All-American Picnics, and Weir River Farm Sunset Picnics. Each approval involved specifying the licensee, event name, date, time, and rain dates where applicable. The board also confirmed the necessity of police details for these events. Multiple motions were made and seconded, followed by roll call votes, with all licenses being approved unanimously by the participating board members.
Loop Shuttle Granted Limousine License to Provide Children's Ride Service
The Select Board unanimously approved a limousine license for Loop Shuttle, a locally owned and operated ride service specifically designed for children. The service aims to help parents manage their children's schedules by providing safe transportation. Loop Shuttle will utilize professionally vetted drivers, 7D certified, and will feature a dedicated app for parents to track their children. The application was in order, the vehicle was inspected, and the primary driver, Doris McCann, and additional driver, Charles Veasey, were approved. Liz Klein, a Select Board member, recused herself from the discussion and vote due to personal involvement with the company.
Select Board Approves Multiple Appointments and Reappointments to Town Committees
The Select Board approved numerous appointments and reappointments to various town committees and boards. These included new appointments to the 4th of July Parade Committee and reappointments to positions such as the Affordable Housing Trust, Zoning Board of Appeals, Audit Committee, Conservation Commission, Council on Aging, and many others. Terms varied from one to five years, ending between 2026 and 2030. All motions for appointment and reappointment were seconded and passed with unanimous roll call votes.
Hingham Secures $296K in Snow Remediation Funds and Achieves $50K Savings on Insurance Renewal
The Town Administrator provided positive financial updates for FY26 and FY27. For FY26, Hingham secured $296,344 in remediation funds due to snow and ice, approved by Governor Healey. For FY27, the property and liability insurance renewal came in at just over 7%, resulting in $50,000 in savings compared to the budgeted 10% increase.
Hingham Center for Active Living: Feedback Highlights Use of Existing Buildings, Cost Reduction, and Service Improvements
The Select Board received an update on the feedback collected regarding next steps for the Hingham Center for Active Living. Approximately 60 messages were received, highlighting 10 overarching themes. These themes include utilizing existing buildings, avoiding development on Bear Cove Park, reducing project costs and tax impact, revisiting Town Hall and police station expansion options, exploring the Hitchcock Shoe Building, considering a multi-generational center, improving parking and operations at the current center, conducting more public engagement, improving transportation and senior services, and considering smaller or phased approaches. Short-term improvements to the existing Center for Active Living space, such as sprucing up the courtyard and renovating an old OIC space, are planned with minimal cost. Discussions are also ongoing regarding scheduling changes to potentially free up parking and accommodate more programming.
