Highland Village Funds Study to Address Trail Erosion Near FM 2499 Tunnel
The city council discussed and approved a resolution authorizing a project funding agreement with the Highland Village Community Development Corporation (HVCDC) for a city trail erosion control study. The study, costing \$26,600, will analyze erosion and drainage issues along the city trail at FM 2499, specifically near the pedestrian tunnel and flanking landscape beds. The HVCDC board recommended the study, which will be managed by Scott and conducted by Schoenberg Polk Engineering (SPI). The study aims to identify four options to address the problems, including potential landscaping, stem walls, or riprap, and will provide cost estimates and conceptual renderings. This initiative is part of a larger effort to address maintenance and beautification of amenity stations throughout the city. The council approved the funding unanimously.
Highland Village Approves \$442,430 Renovation for Unity and Brazos Park Fields
The city council considered and approved a resolution authorizing a contract for construction services with Sports Field Solutions LLC for the renovation of Unity Park Flexfield and Brazos Park flag football fields. The project, totaling \$442,430, will be funded by the 2022 bonds and includes new irrigation systems, grading for proper drainage, and hydro-mulching with sports turf seed. The renovation aims to improve turf quality, safety, and durability for these heavily used athletic fields. Sports Field Solutions LLC was chosen through a cooperative purchasing agreement. The project is expected to begin this summer and take approximately 90 days to complete, with public outreach planned regarding herbicide application and field closures. An additional cost for a new water meter at Unity Park will be covered by the 2022 bond contingency.
Highland Village Approves Funding for Double Tree Ranch Park Shade Structure Replacement
The city council discussed and considered a resolution to authorize a project funding agreement with the Highland Village Community Development Corporation (HVCDC) for the Double Tree Ranch Park shade structure replacement project. The existing shade structure has design flaws causing the fabric to sag, creating a safety hazard and leading to vandalism. The HVCDC board approved a new single four-post shade structure totaling \$61,811, which will be funded from the HVCDC budget. This new structure is designed to prevent sagging and match the aesthetic of the adjacent playground structures. The council debated the cost and size compared to the original structure, ultimately approving the funding for the replacement.
