Denton City Council Canvasses Election Results, Installs New Officials, and Elects Mayor Pro Tem
The Denton City Council canvassed the results of the municipal runoff election held on June 13th, 2026. George Michael Ferry Jr. was declared the winner for Place 5 with 50.39% of the votes, and Chris Watts was declared the winner for Place 7 (Mayor) with 50.17% of the votes. The council adopted the ordinance to officiate these results, passing unanimously. Following the election results, the council conducted a proclamation for Brandon Chase McGee, recognizing his service from May 17, 2022, to June 23, 2026, including his contributions to various committees. The council also administered the oaths of office to the newly elected council member, George Michael Ferry Jr., for Place 5 and the re-elected Mayor, Chris Watts. The meeting concluded with the election of Councilmember Nick Stevens as Mayor Pro Tem, who received five votes. Finally, Mayor Pro Tem Stevens and Councilmember Villariel congratulated the new council members and wished the community a happy Pride Month.
