"Granbury's 3 Questions" Council Member Skip Overdier on Accomplishments by Granbury City Council
Published: Jun 24, 2026
Granbury Completes Second Wastewater Plant Amidst Significant Population Growth
To accommodate Granbury's rapid growth, the city is completing its second wastewater treatment plant. The population has grown from approximately 6,000 to 12,000-13,000 residents, with projections to reach 20,000 by 2040. The new plant will service the increased population. Looking ahead, the city is also planning for a future water treatment plant, having already purchased land for it, and is seeking funding and plans for its development. This proactive approach to utility infrastructure is crucial given the significant projected population increase for both the city and the surrounding county.
Highway 377 Widening Project Underway to Enhance Safety and Traffic Flow
The council has been working with TxDOT and Techs 21 on the widening of Highway 377 to improve safety and travel efficiency. A significant portion of the traffic on this highway uses it as a pass-through, not as a destination within Granbury. The city has allocated funds to move its utilities to accommodate the widening project, which has been in planning and engineering phases for several years and is expected to continue for a few more. While the construction period may cause temporary disruptions, the long-term outcome is anticipated to be a much improved and safer road.
Council Member Envisions Consolidated Sports Complex Fueled by Economic Growth
Councilmember Skip expressed a desire for a consolidated sports complex if the city's tax base grows sufficiently through commercial and industrial development. This complex would serve as a centralized hub for various sports and activities, usable by the city, residents, and potentially schools. While not envisioned as an 'AT&T stadium,' it would accommodate sports like baseball, basketball, football, racketball, tennis, and pickleball. The realization of such a 'big ticket item' is contingent on generating substantial tax revenue from new industrial and commercial developments.
