City Renews Insurance, Achieves Over $123,000 Savings by Moving Property Coverage to Chubb

The City Council approved Resolution Number 1668, concerning the renewal of the city's property and liability insurance. The staff recommended Option 2, which involves moving property insurance coverage to Chubb, resulting in a savings of approximately $145,000. This option required adding a Lloyds of London policy to cover a $9 million difference in flood coverage, but still yielded a net savings of over $123,000 compared to maintaining existing coverage with MoPerm Travelers. Auto liability and excess umbrella liability saw increases, while workers' compensation decreased.

Fire Station Garage Doors to be Replaced for $89,809

The City Council approved Resolution Number 1666, authorizing the purchase and installation of new garage doors and electric operators for the Excelsior Springs Fire Station. The project will cost $89,809 and is intended to replace aging doors that have caused significant mechanical and repair issues over the past two and a half to three years. The new system will include all necessary components like doors, timers, tracks, hangers, wiring, and sensors.

The City Council received the 2025 Annual Report for the Community Development Department. Code compliance saw a significant number of inspections and issued violation notices, with a strong emphasis on voluntary compliance. Planning and Zoning reviewed numerous plats, text amendments, and rezonings. Permitting numbers were down, but investment remained substantial. The department also switched software systems and is preparing for online contractor licensing, online inspection requests, and an interactive zoning map.

Total revenue for May 2026 was $2,327,488.54.
