City Council Approves Board and Commission Appointments
The City Council unanimously approved Resolution Number 1664, confirming various board and commission appointments and reappointments. Notable appointments include Jody Pasilich to the Board of Zoning Adjustments, Sharia Drake to the Parks and Recreation Board, and multiple individuals to the Housing Authority and Community Improvement Districts. Four of the appointees are graduates of the recent Thrive Academy.
City Renews Insurance, Achieves Over $123,000 Savings by Moving Property Coverage to Chubb
The City Council approved Resolution Number 1668, concerning the renewal of the city's property and liability insurance. The staff recommended Option 2, which involves moving property insurance coverage to Chubb, resulting in a savings of approximately $145,000. This option required adding a Lloyds of London policy to cover a $9 million difference in flood coverage, but still yielded a net savings of over $123,000 compared to maintaining existing coverage with MoPerm Travelers. Auto liability and excess umbrella liability saw increases, while workers' compensation decreased.
Fire Station Garage Doors to be Replaced for $89,809
The City Council approved Resolution Number 1666, authorizing the purchase and installation of new garage doors and electric operators for the Excelsior Springs Fire Station. The project will cost $89,809 and is intended to replace aging doors that have caused significant mechanical and repair issues over the past two and a half to three years. The new system will include all necessary components like doors, timers, tracks, hangers, wiring, and sensors.
Community Development Department Presents 2025 Annual Report Highlighting Growth and Service Enhancements
The City Council received the 2025 Annual Report for the Community Development Department. The report highlighted the department's achievements, including the Mayor's Block Party Challenge, a neighborhood leadership academy grant, the Silver Prom event, and management of the vacant property program. Code compliance saw a significant number of inspections and issued violation notices, with a strong emphasis on voluntary compliance. Planning and Zoning reviewed numerous plats, text amendments, and rezonings. Permitting numbers were down, but investment remained substantial. The department also switched software systems and is preparing for online contractor licensing, online inspection requests, and an interactive zoning map.
May 2026 Financial Report Shows Total Appropriations of $1.95 Million and Revenues of $2.33 Million
The Finance Director presented the May 2026 monthly review report, detailing appropriations and revenues. Total appropriations for May 2026 amounted to $1,948,150.91, including significant expenditures such as $40,968 for the Hall of Waters steam track replacement and $324,104.67 for developer payments to The Elms (CID and TIF). Total revenue for May 2026 was $2,327,488.54.
